Google Offers Free WiFi for India: but will they censor content?

  

  

Google has announced that it is to offer free WiFi acrossIndia, in an attempt to promote the use of their social network Google+, andaffiliated sites such as YouTube. There is currently less than 10% Internetpenetration in India, this service will greatly benefit consumers in India. Ofcourse, it will also benefit Google, whose Android phones are in competitionwith other popular smartphones such as the BlackBerryBellagio and the Nokia Lumia.

However, the announcement comes at an interesting time,after Delhi High Court ordered Google India, along with Facebook India, tomoderate their content, or face being blocked. Justice Suresh Kaitsaid “LikeChina, we will block all such websites.”

It has been argued in response to this that Google is notresponsible for third-party content, making it unfeasible for the search engineto really be blocked. Mukul Rohatgi testified that “No human interference ispossible, and moreover, it can’t be feasible to check such incidents. Billionsof people across the globe post their articles on the website. Yes, they may bedematory, obscene, but cannot be checked.”

It seems that Google in India may be safe for now. But howwill they make sure that people access the Google websites, rather thancompetitors? They’re offering the free WiFi on the basisof unlimited usage of Google+, and ten minutes of access to YouTube. Users whowish to access other websites will pay by the minute, limiting access to rivalsites such as Facebook and Yahoo.

Google is offering this service in association with O-ZoneNetworks. O-Zone Networks CEO Sanjeev Sarin said: “This is a first-of-its-kindpromotional tie-up. This association between Google India and O-Zone Networksreinforces the fact that people are now realising the power of Wi-Fi.”

For your information, presently O-Zone network has 5,000Wi-Fi access points across India and these access points includes  McDonalds, Café Oz, Cafe Coffee Day CostaCoffee, Subway, OM Bookshop and Coffee Bean.

Google has released a guideline for the design of applications for Android

People of all ages and cultures feel firmly in control, and are never overwhelmed by too many choices or irrelevant flash.

It's not enough to make an app that is easy to use. Android apps empower people to try new things and to use apps in inventive new ways. LG and Microsoft have signed a license agreement relating to Android and Chrome OS devices

Microsoft and LG Electronics announced the signing of the patent agreement, affecting the portfolio of patents to Microsoft for the products of LG Electronics, has an operating system Android and Chrome OS.

Google appoints Diane B. Greene to its Board of Directors

Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) announced it has appointed Diane B. Greene to its Board of Directors. An experienced entrepreneur, technological innovator, and corporate executive with more than three decades of experience, Greene will also serve on Google’s Audit Committee. Her appointment is effective January 12, 2012.

“Diane is a special person who combines a sharp business acumen with a brilliant technical mind,” said Eric Schmidt, executive chairman of Google. “We know she will be a great contributor and we are grateful to have her insight.”

“Google is an asset to society because of its relentless focus on improving users’ lives through pioneering technology, and it is also a standout growing business,” said Greene. “It is incredibly exciting to have the opportunity to support this as a board member.”

Greene, 56, has been a member of the board of directors of Intuit Inc. since August 2006 and serves on its Audit and Risk Committee and Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee. Greene co-founded VMware, Inc. in 1998 and took the company public in 2007. She served as Chief Executive Officer and President of VMware from 1998 to 2008, as a member of the board of directors of VMware from 2007 to 2008, and as an Executive Vice President of EMC Corporation from 2005 to 2008.

Prior to VMware, Greene held technical leadership positions at Silicon Graphics Inc., Tandem Computers, Inc., and Sybase Inc., and was Chief Executive Officer of VXtreme, Inc. She is also a member of The MIT Corporation.

Greene holds a Master of Science degree in computer science from the University of California at Berkeley, a Master of Science degree in naval architecture from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Vermont.

Sprint Continues the Momentum for LTE Launch by Unveiling Three Initial 4G LTE Devices – Galaxy Nexus, LG Viper and Sierra Wireless Tri-Network Hotspot

Customers in Atlanta, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio are expected to enjoy ultra-fast 4G LTE service and an improved 3G wireless experience before middle of year

Sprint (NYSE:S) announced the initial group of devices that will operate on its 4G LTE network – Galaxy Nexus™, boasting a pure Google™ experience, LG Viper™ 4G LTE with eco-friendly features and Sierra Wireless™ Tri-Network Hotspot, 3G, 4G and 4G LTE mobile hotspot. Full product specifications, pricing and availability will be shared closer to each device’s launch date.
The debut of these devices is a key element of Network Vision, Sprint’s plan to consolidate multiple network technologies into one seamless solution. With Network Vision, Sprint customers can expect to enjoy ultra-fast data speeds, improved 3G voice and data quality, and stronger in-building signal penetration providing a more valuable wireless experience and enhancing the value of current unlimited plans.

On Jan. 5, Sprint CEO Dan Hesse announced that customers in Atlanta, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio are expected to be among the first to benefit from 4G LTE and improved 3G coverage in the first half of 2012. Additional areas that will receive 3G enhancements and 4G LTE expansion in 2012 will be announced later in the year.

Approximately 15 4G LTE devices are currently on track to be launched in 2012 including handsets, tablets and data cards. Additionally, 4G devices, including HTC EVO™ Design 4G, Samsung Epic™ 4G Touch and Nexus S™ 4G, will continue to be sold in 2012.

The new 4G LTE smartphones will benefit from Sprint Everything plans including the Everything Data Plan with Any Mobile, AnytimeSM offering unlimited data, texting and calling to and from any mobile phone in America while on the Sprint Network. With Sprint’s unlimited data plans, customers don’t have to worry about throttling or surprises on their monthly bill from data overage charges like they might with tiered data plans from other carriers.

Sprint’s unlimited data plans also benefit NBA fans. As the Official Wireless Service Partner of the NBA, Sprint exclusively offers Sprint NBA Mobile on Android phones, including the upcoming 4G LTE LG Viper. This new custom app provides in-game and post-game video highlights, news, scores, stats and live home and away radio broadcasts to NBA fans.

Robust Features at 4G LTE Speeds

Pairing the beauty of Samsung hardware with a pure Google experience, Galaxy Nexus on Sprint is built on Android™ 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich. Ice Cream Sandwich brings an entirely new look and feel to Android. It has a redesigned user interface with improved multi-tasking, notifications, Wi-Fi hotspot, NFC support and a full web browsing experience. Galaxy Nexus features software navigation buttons, a first for Android smartphones. The lock screen, home screen, phone app and everything in between has been rethought and redesigned to make Android simple, beautiful and useful.

Ice Cream Sandwich introduces innovations such as Face Unlock, which uses facial recognition to unlock your phone. Powered by Android 2.3, Gingerbread, LG Viper 4G LTE is equipped with a 1.2GHz dual core processor and two cameras – a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and a VGA front-facing camera that makes face-to-face video calls a fun and easy experience. HTC and Ice Cream Sandwich: New list appeared

Just over two months, HTC has officially been known various devices , which the "Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich" - Update be received officially. From other devices, unfortunately, was never mentioned until now and also a publication date of the update for the confirmed units, was never called. Now on the HTC Turkish Facebook fan page is a list of all current devices is emerging is not on just to see what devices are still on trial, but was also known as a potential date for equipment already confirmed.

In summary we can say that this list but does not bring with it great news but still makes for some clarity. At least we now know that early in 2012 but is "earlier" than expected and planned for the update for EVO 3D was already the end of 2011.

Also, we now also know what devices are probably still talking. Personally, I am pleased to see that even the HTC Desire is still considered quite feeble, and the HTC Wildfire S is a candidate for ICS Update also.

I really would like to point out again that this list is not given out officially by HTC confirms Turkey /. Only one user has it written on the whiteboard.
