Xperia™ acro HD and Xperia™ NX announced for the Japanese market

On the 10th of January, we announced four new Xperia™ smartphones – Xperia™ ion, Xperia™ S, Xperia™ acro HD and Xperia™ NX. This article aims to give you some more details on the last two, Xperia™ acro HD and Xperia™ NX.  Xperia™ acro HD is the follow-up to Xperia acro with popular Japan-specific features including Mobile Wallet via Felica and Mobile TV. Both Xperia™ acro HD and Xperia™ NX will be launching on the Android™ 2.3 (Gingerbread) platform. Both devices have 1GB of RAM and a 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S3 MSM8260 dual core processor for stunning, fluid graphics, plus long battery life. You’ll also find the Adreno™ 220 GPU for an enhanced level of 3D graphics performance, and allows for support of a number of APIs, including OpenGL ES 2.0, OpenGL ES 1.1 and OpenVG 1.1. These devices also provide the full Sony entertainment experience with easy connectivity to the Sony Entertainment Network and across multiple screens, whether it’s TV, smartphone, laptop or tablet. You can watch content from Video Unlimited and access the PlayStation® Network for PlayStation-certified content to guarantee high-quality smartphone gaming and access to the PlayStation Store.  
Both products are also GLONASS-capable, allowing the device greater positioning accuracy when using navigation-related applications, and ANT+ enabled, which is an interoperability function that enables the collection, automatic transfer and tracking of sensor data for monitoring of personal wellness. DOCOMO and five companies will establish a joint venture to produce a new mobile platform

The joint venture company will focus on developing products for LTE and LTE-Advanced mobile communication standards. The products will be sold in markets globally.

The envisioned joint venture company will be formed once all parties agree on the details, which are now being worked out through consultation. Following the basic agreement announced today, and as part of preparing to form the joint venture company, DOCOMO plans to invest 450 million Japanese yen, or about 5.8 million USD*, to establish a wholly owned subsidiary, called Communication Platform Planning Co., Ltd. and headed by CEO Mitsunobu Komori, concurrently an executive vice president and Chief Technical Officer of DOCOMO, by the middle of January.

DOCOMO Reports on Effects of and Response to sp-mode Service Malfunction

NTT DOCOMO, INC. once again extends its deepest apologies for inconveniencing customers as a result of its sp-mode service malfunction on Tuesday, December 20, 2011, causing the email address of some customers using the service to be temporarily replaced with a different email address and related errors.This situation was resolved by around 18:00 JST on December 20*. DOCOMO Establishes Task Force to Improve Network Infrastructure
