Nokia Developer Newsletter confirms Nokia Lumia 900 March release
Thanks to Paul Thurrott we have been expecting the Nokia Lumia 900 to be released in March this year. Nokia and Microsoft has however been very coy at CES, only talking in vague terms of ‘next few months’.
Now the official Nokia Developer Newsletter has blown the secret, confirming that the handset is expected in March this year. Paul Thurrott pinned it down more specifically to March 18th, which would be the third Sunday of the month.
Unfortunately similar leaks have not accompanied the HTC Titan II, so we do not know when Nokia’s main Windows Phone LTE competitor will be hitting the network, but it is rumoured that it may be sooner than the Lumia 900.

Official: Lumia 900 doesn’t use PenTile Technology
Some confusion raised about the Nokia Lumia 900′s display after it was introduced: it was not clear if like the Lumia 800, the Lumia 900 used a PenTile AMOLED display. The PenTile display technology shares green sub pixels with other RGB pixels, so you get one-third fewer sub-pixels in total due to the new arrangement. In fact, a 4.3″ screen would have the same resolution as a 4″ display using PenTile technology! In a full RGB panel, each pixel is made up with 12 sub pixels, whereas in a PenTile display, only 8 sub pixels are present. The effects a PenTile display produces are often noticeable by the end user: some colors look grainy and fuzzy, and whites have an odd tone to them. In summary, PenTile displays aren’t as sharp and accurate as a full RGB matrix display: they are cheaper versions of the real thing.
It has been officially confirmed to me by Nokia, that the upcoming Nokia Lumia 900 does not use a PenTile arrangement. This means the Lumia 900 is using a full RGB matrix display, which will result in a much better experience. It’s nice to see that Nokia is really trying to offer the best experience possible by improving the quality of the components and materials they use. A full RGB matrix display will ensure that images look nice and sharp on the Lumia 900′s screen.

Nokia Could Sell 37 Million Windows Phones This Year
If 2011 was the year of Windows Phone’s slow slog to market, 2012 may be the year of its breakout.
With a decent selection of handsets in the marketplace — including Nokia’s newly announced LTE device, the Lumia 900 — Windows Phone is poised for some respectable market-share gains, particularly if Microsoft promotes it as aggressively as some expect it to.
Indeed, Morgan Stanley expects shipments of Nokia’s new Windows Phones to hit 37 million units in 2012, and 64 million units in 2013.
Add to this Morgan Stanley’s estimates for HTC’s Windows Phone handsets, and you get shipments of 43 million this year and 74 million the next. And that’s just those two OEMs alone. There are a few others for which the research house doesn’t provide estimates. Samsung, for example.
Pretty good, considering Microsoft’s smartphone efforts to date, and Windows Phone’s youth. One could argue that it’s unrealistic to expect blowout sales from these first Windows Phone smartphones, particularly given the market power of their competition — the iPhone and a growing array of Android handsets. Microsoft was never going to just stroll into the smartphone market with a slick OS and convert legions of consumers who have been ignoring it for years.
And the company knows it.
“We’ve got a lot of room to go in selling Windows Phones,” CEO Steve Ballmer said during his remarks at the Consumer Electronics Show earlier this week. “But I feel very much like the work we’re doing is really going to pay off.”

Free Las Vegas limo rides: Nokia Lumia 710 and Nokia Drive
In the true spirit of Las Vegas we hired a limo and gave out free rides to people all over town, during CES 2012. The rules were simple... 1. They can't tell the driver where they're going. 2. They need to input their destination into Nokia Lumia 710 using Nokia Drive. 3. Shout out turn-by-turn directions to the driver. 4. Enjoy the ride!

Samsung confident of outselling Nokia in 2012
Samsung Electronics Co (005930.KS) said it is confident it will become the world's largest cellphone maker in 2012, ending Nokia's (NOK1V.HE) 14-year reign in the mobile handset market.
Samsung became the world's No 1 smartphone maker in the third quarter of 2011 and is quickly building on its supremacy with sleek designs and a rich product line-up.
By contrast the latest models from the likes of HTC (2498.TW), Nokia and Research In Motion (RIM.TO), maker of the BlackBerry, are struggling to lure consumers.
Samsung Chief Executive Choi Gee-sung told reporters in Las Vegas late on Monday the company overtook Nokia in revenue terms in its latest reported quarter and was confident of topping the Finnish group in shipments this year.
"It really highlights the level to which Nokia has struggled to retain momentum through 2011," said Tim Shepherd, analyst at technology research firm Canalys.
"Samsung is really charging forward at the moment. It is delivering really compelling products to the market and consumers are responding," he said.
NOKIA STRUGGLES
Losing the top spot on the market would mean another defeat for Finland's Nokia, which rose to the top of cellphone industry in 1998 when it overtook Motorola in phone sales and was the driver for the Nordic economy for a decade.
Nokia's dominant position began to weaken in 2007 when Apple (AAPL.O) entered the industry and grew from nothing to the world's largest smartphone maker in four years.
In recent years Nokia's market share and profits have dropped, hitting its shares which are down seven-fold from its 2007 high of 28.13 euros and which have halved since last year's shift Microsoft (MSFT.O) software in its smartphones.
Samsung's bullish forecast is in line with some analysts, including Royal Bank of Scotland, betting Samsung would build on its momentum to overtake Nokia in 2012, but on average analysts have expected Nokia to keep its lead on the market.
According to the latest polls by Reuters, Nokia was expected to sell 418 million phones in 2011, versus Samsung's 320 million. The gap would narrow this year to 388 million versus 359 million.
"Samsung is getting closer to Nokia very quickly. Their smartphones strategy has proven right and on feature phones they are growing fast in emerging markets too," said IDC analyst Francisco Jeronimo.
"Samsung became a recognized brand and their successful smartphones are helping their feature phones business in regions where smartphones are still too expensive," he said.
EMERGING MARKETS CHALLENGE?
The South Korean firm -- the world's biggest technology company by revenue -- said in early December its 2011 handset sales reached 300 million handsets for the first time, mainly led by a near four-fold jump in smartphone sales.
"Considering how strong Nokia still is in the emerging markets, Samsung's expectation seems to imply that Nokia will miserably fail in mature markets," said Gartner analyst Carolina Milanesi.
Analysts expect cellphone market growth to slow in 2012, with weak demand seen in Western Europe against stronger demand for emerging markets, which have historically been Nokia's stronghold.
"I think it will be hard for Samsung to beat Nokia without more aggressively targeting emerging markets," Milanesi said.
Choi also said Samsung was likely to meet its 2015 sales target ahead of schedule and plans to increase investment this year.
"With the current sales growth rate, we are likely to... achieve the 2015 sales target of $200 billion earlier," Choi told reporters.
Samsung last week reported a 6.5 percent rise in 2011 revenue to 164.7 trillion won ($141.54 billion).
