Huawei Marine Begins Manufacturing Phase of Global Financial Network Express Project

Huawei Marine Networks Co., Ltd. (Huawei Marine) announced the signing of a construction contract of Hibernia Atlantic’s Global Financial Network (GFN) Project Express. Huawei Marine recently completed the first phase of the project’s marine survey work and is now commencing the manufacturing of the necessary cables and wet plant for the project.

The Project Express segment of the GFN is scheduled to be ready for service during the summer of 2013. The system will involve a minimum of a 4-fibre pair repeatered submarine cable, providing connectivity between New York and London, initially using 40G technology with upgrades to 100G planned in the future.

The first phase of the system begins with laying a 4600KM cable from Brean in Somerset, United Kingdom to Halifax, Canada. This cable will then connect to Hibernia Atlantic’s current low latency cable, which runs from Halifax to the United States, passing from Lynn, near Boston, and onwards to New York. The new system will also include five branching units for future connectivity enhancements to the United States, Continental Europe, and Ireland.

Project Express will become an essential route on Hibernia Atlantic’s GFN, uniting hundreds of global banks and financial exchanges with a single connection. Built specifically for the financial community, the GFN meets demanding performance and reliability requirements. Project Express will further strengthen the GFN by reinforcing it as the fastest path across the Atlantic, providing additional fast and secure links throughout North America, Europe, and Asia.

As the first transatlantic subsea cable to be built in 10 years, Project Express will offer the lowest latency route from New York to London with less than a 60 millisecond round trip, making it the fastest and most direct route connecting both major continents.

Mr. Bjarni Thorvardarson, Chief Executive Officer, Hibernia Atlantic, said: “Project Express has taken another huge leap forward in the process of deploying the fastest transatlantic connectivity available to our GFN customer base. While we have been working to advance this project through marine surveys and letter agreements, this final closure of the full agreement is a major milestone in delivering this momentous project.”

Mr. Nigel Bayliff, Chief Executive Officer, Huawei Marine, said: “Project Express is an exciting one for Huawei as it allows us to utilize our advanced digital coherent transmission technology, implement our delivery and installation capabilities, and draw on our experience from a number of submarine projects, to complete this significant and technically challenging system. Once completed, we believe that the Hibernia Atlantic Express will be a huge contributor to the faster transport of critical transactions from one key financial city or exchange to the next.”

Huawei Marine Launches BDM Cable System Solution

The new system brings a new era of information sharing and transfer to the people of Indonesia and Malaysia

Tianjin, China, 11 January, 2012: Huawei Marine Networks Co, Ltd. (Huawei Marine), announced the successful completion of the BATAM-DUMAI-MELAKA (BDM) Cable System that links Batam and Dumai in Indonesia with a turnkey solution by adding a new landing point at Melaka in Malaysia.

This new solution provides the joint-operators of the system – Telekom Malaysia Berhad, PT XL Axiata Tbk., and PT Mora Telematika Indonesia (BDM Purchasers) – with the exceptional bandwidth improvement they require to meet the increasing demand for international communications in Malaysia and Indonesia.

“I would like to thank BDM Purchasers for allowing Huawei Marine the opportunity to provide this important system,” said Mr. Nigel Bayliff, CEO of Huawei Marine. “The completion of this BDM cable system not only highlights the delivery and installation capabilities of Huawei Marine, but most importantly, will bring a new era of information sharing and transfer to the people of Indonesia and Malaysia.”

The delivery of the system proved to be quite challenging due to the complex environment. It required a NEXANS URC-1 cable to be buried at a depth of three meters across the Strait of Malacca, which is well known for its extraordinarily busy shipping lanes. BDM cable also had to cross several existing cables and be ready for service within a tight delivery schedule. With the expertise of Global Marine on cable installation challenges have been overcome.

Huawei has unveiled the first prototype system Giga DSL

Huawei has announced the successful launch of the industry's first prototype Giga DSL (Digital Subscriber line - digital subscriber line), which uses two-way communication with time division (TDD) to achieve a total rate of transfer 1000 Mb / s in the forward and backward by one twisted pair.

As the company to overcome the problems associated with bandwidth restriction systems FTTB / FTTC and complexity of cabling junction cables for FTTH, as well as to subscribers to enjoy broadband services (IPTV and HDTV), the connection point optical fiber should be located as far as possible closer to the user. Although access ultrabroadband 100 Mbit / s can be relatively easy to organize with the help of the resources available copper lines, but provide bandwidth to 1000 Mbit / s within a radius of 100 meters using DSL transmission technology on twisted pair is much more complicated.

Through the use of technology in signal transfer with low spectral density, the prototype Giga DSL Huawei has a low noise and energy consumption, while ensuring that the overall rate of transmission in forward and reverse 1-Gbit / s at a distance of 100 meters and 500 Mbit / s at a distance 200 meters. Thanks to the operators hand will reduce the cost of building a network of UWB access.

From the words of Huawei, the success of the project Giga DSL will strengthen the ability of other broadband access solutions - SingleFAN.
